Comparative politics researchers There was a thread about this a while ago but a thorough comparison was never properly done. From what I have read, political science is more focused on government and elections on a national level, while international relations is more focused on foreign and global affairs and usually requires the student to take on a second language. Whereas International Politics which also refers as Global Politics is just one of the aspect we discuss in IR.. it deals with the practical approach of a nations interaction with another by using the theories of IR and applying them in the international system. International Politics is a subset, at best, of International Relations. International relations (also known as international affairs or global politics, amongst other course names) focuses on the political issues and foreign affairs affecting the world today. It’s an interdisciplinary subject, touching on history, economics, anthropology and sociology as well as politics.
Note: Students majoring in Political Science with an concentration in International Relations and Comparative Politics must take a minimum of 37 credits of political science, including one 300-400 level course in four of the five major fields. 21 of the 37 credits must be in upper-division courses.
